Play A Day

Post Secret: I stick post it notes in all the library books I've read, hoping that someday, they will make some one happy.

Lights come up on GIRL (dressed nicely, in light jeans, light blue t-shirt, white sweater, necklace, and dark blue scarf) reading a novel in a big comfy arm chair. Her legs are slung over one arm of the chair, her back leaning against the other arm. She finishes the novel, and sits for a moment, before getting up and going to her desk. She takes out a post it note and a silver sharpie. She sits back down, and takes the cover off the sharpie, and sticks it onto the other end. She clanks the cap up and down on her teeth as she thinks of what to write. She finally thinks of something, she writes it slow, with care, trying to make it look nice. She finishes the note, and peels it off slowly. She puts it inside the book and exits happily. Lights fade.

Lights come up on empty bedroom, that is pretty plain and bare. It is slightly messy. It is silent for a minute.

GIRL 2
[offstage, crying]
Just leave me alone!

GIRL 2's footsteps are heard coming up the stairs. GIRL 2 enters crying, she is wearing baggy sweater (a hand me down) and jeans a little too short for her, her hair is done in a simple low ponytail. She it thin. She is carrying two school binders and the same novel as scene 1. Once she enters she closes the door, and turns on her small crappy boom box, and turns it up all the way. The Weepies play. She sits down on the floor, crying, her head leaning against her bed. After a few minutes, when her cries become a little less, she looks for a distraction, and picks up the novel. She beings to read it, starting from near the middle. She reads slowly, not really into the book, turns the page, and finds the stick note. She peels it off carefully and reads it. A slow, small smile spreads across her face and she sticks the note on the inside back cover. She gets more comfortable on the floor, and begins to really read the book, she reads for awhile, and then takes the sticky note and uses it as a book mark, she closes the book, and turns off the music. She starts her homework. Lights fade.
