Post Secret: Will Trade Sex For Affection

Lights rise on a MAN and a WOMAN in bed together, the tangled sheets cover their bodies but they are naked underneath. The WOMAN is attempting to cuddle with the MAN while he smokes a cigarette that is almost gone. Once he finishes he gets up and puts on his boxers (which are on the floor inside his pants) and his pants at the same time.

WOMAN

Where are you going?

MAN

[as he puts on his shoes and socks, with his back to her]

I got work early in the morning. [trying to sound reluctant] I got to go.

WOMAN

[disappointed]

Tomorrow is Saturday though.

MAN

[while putting on his shirt]

Yeah, I uh work on Saturdays.

WOMAN

[sad, knows she is being lied to]

I thought you said you were a history teacher…

MAN

I am… I have to make sure my dog has food and water…

WOMAN

[eyes downcast]

Oh… ok.

MAN

[grabbing his jacket]

I’ll give you a call though.

Starts to head for the door.

WOMAN

Don’t you need my number first?

MAN

Huh?

WOMAN

[sadly]

My number… to call me.

MAN

Oh, yeah, sure.

WOMAN leans over to the nightstand, and takes out a pen and paper, she writes down her number and holds it out to the MAN, who walks over and takes it. Then begins for the door again.

MAN

So, I will give you a call then.

WOMAN

Yeah.

MAN exits, lights fade on WOMAN with her head on her knees.

Lights come up on WOMAN at a bar, she is drinking cranberry juice, which is almost gone. MAN 1 sits next to WOMAN. He looks at her, and finds her attractive.

MAN 1

Can I buy you another?

WOMAN

[a little shy]

Um, yeah okay.

MAN 1 motions to BARTENDER, and points to WOMANS drink. BARTENDER refills it and leaves.

MAN 1

So what do you do?

WOMAN

I’m a photographer.

MAN 1

You do like weddings and things like that?

WOMAN

Um yeah. I do weddings, glamour shots, landscapes, and other things. What about you, what do you do?

MAN 1

I’m a graphic designer, but in my free time I volunteer at the Rec. center to teach art classes.

WOMAN

That’s really nice.

MAN 1

Yeah, I really like kids, I would like to have a family someday, but right now I am looking for the right girl to settle down with, that’s not an easy thing to do though. [chuckles]

WOMAN

I know what you mean. I’ve been trying to find some one to settle down with, but no one really seems interested…

MAN 1

Really, I find that hard to believe. You seem like just the kind of woman I would want to start a family with.[strokes her cheek lightly]

Lights fade.

Lights come up on WOMAN in bed with her head on her knees, and MAN 1 heading out the door, much like the first scene.
