Play A Day

Post Secret: I play the lotto so I can afford to adopt a child.

Lights come on MEREDITH and CLERK at a convenience store buying half a gallon of 2 percent milk, and bread. MEREDITH is a woman in her late 30's.

CLERK
Will that be all ma'am?

MEREDITH
Um, no. Can I get, two power ball tickets?

CLERK
Sure.

CLERK rings up her purchases.

CLERK
Okay, that will be eight dollars and 37 cents.

MEREDITH digs a small wad of money out of her pocket. She unfolds it and it amounts to 6 dollars, she digs some change out of her pocket and she finds 13 cents.

MEREDITH
Um... I have six dollars and thirteen cents?

CLERK
Well, I can put the power ball tickets back.

MEREDITH
Umm. No thanks. I think I'll just put the milk back.

MEREDITH puts the milk back, and comes back and pays the CLERK. CLERK hands her the change.

CLERK
Have a nice day.

MEREDITH
Thanks, you too.

Lights fade.

Lights come up on MEREDITH sitting in an old recliner eating crackers. She is watching the local news, the phone and her power ball tickets are next to her. Commercials come on, and the power ball numbers are announced. MEREDITH grabs her tickets and checks both simultaneously. She is disappointed, and double checks, and sighs. The news comes back on, and it covers THURDAYS CHILD. MEREDITH sighs and turns off the television, leaving the room in the dark.

Just like life, if only people could learn there is more important things then gambling for money. Either way, I liked it.
