Play A Day
Post Secret: I wouldn't have left him if he had just taken the drugs.
Lights come up on a young couple (man and woman) at the table eating scrambled eggs, bacon, toast, and drinking coffee. WOMAN is eating, MAN only picks at it
WOMAN
Why aren't you eating?
MAN
I don't know. I don't feel like it.
WOMAN
[clearing her plate and his, walking towards the sink, back to him
Well, I wish you would have told me that before I made it.
MAN
Sorry.
there is a pause.
WOMAN
[while cleaning dishes]
Did you take your pill this morning?
MAN
no.
WOMAN
[turning off sink]
Why not?
MAN
I didn't want to.
WOMAN
You're supposed to take it, thats why the doctor prescribed it.
MAN
I don't want to take it, I don't need it.
WOMAN
Don't you want to feel better?
MAN
I feel fine.
WOMAN
No you don't.
MAN
Yes, I feel fine. Please don't tell me how I feel.
WOMAN
If you felt fine you would be eating, you wouldn't be mopping around the house, you wouldn't be sleeping all the time. You are not fine.
MAN
[getting up from the table]
I'm going to be late for work.
WOMAN
I didn't know you still went to work.
MAN exits. Lights fade.

The nice thing about these "secrets" is that they have built in conflict and tension. I wonder what the medication is for that it would affect their relationship so severely.
